AUGUSTA - Patrick J. Henry, 89, died Sunday, Feb. 23, 2014, at the Maine Veterans' Home in Augusta following a long illness. He was born in Chisholm, Maine, on March 11, 1924, a son of the late Marcel and Celina (Legere) Henry.
Mr. Henry attended school in Chisholm and was a Army veteran, serving during World War II.
He had been employed for 47 years by International Paper in Jay.
Mr. Henry was a communicant of St. Michael Parish.
He took up golf in his retirement years and enjoyed playing whenever he could. Proud of being fit into his 80s, he walked regularly and kept to a vigorous routine of morning exercises. He and his wife, Theresa, took numerous ocean cruises and enjoyed vacationing in Hawaii and California.
He was predeceased by three brothers: Fidele, Pete and Frank Henry; three sisters: Elise Langois, Rose Leblanc and Edme Frechette; and a son-in-law, Paul Furbush.
Mr. Henry is survived by his wife of 65 years, Theresa E. (Gagnon) Henry, of Augusta; four sons: Michael Henry and his wife, Debra, of Jay, Larry Henry, of Oakland, Calif., Dan Henry, of San Francisco, Calif., and John Henry, of Augusta; two daughters: Marlene Furbush, of Concord, N.H., and Mary Fosnough and her husband, Larry, of Oakland; a brother, Raymond Henry, of Livermore; a sister, Laurette Poulin, of Farmington; four grandsons: Matthew and Christopher Newton, and Duncan and Collin Fosnough; three great-grandchildren: Emily, Evan and Avery; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
At his request, there will be no public visiting hours. Committal prayers, military honors and burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, in the chapel at the new Maine Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta.
