AUGUSTA -- Raymond F. McKenney, 89, of Old Winthrop Road, died July 28, 2013 at Maine Veterans' Home, Augusta, after an extended illness. He was born in Bangor on Feb. 8, 1924, the son of Ralph McKenney and Mamie (Skillins) McKenney.
Mr. McKenney was a 1943 graduate of Cony High School of Augusta and later attended Harvard University.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed by the Adjutant General's Department at Camp Keyes in Augusta for many years. He also was a master electrician for many years.
Mr. McKenney served in theArmy and Navy, having seen action during World War II.
He had attended South Parish Congregational United Church of Christ in Augusta where he was married.
Surviving is his wife of 66 years, Myra (Tibbetts) McKenney, of Augusta; one son, Steven McKenney, of Manchester; two daughters, Kathleen M. Brann, of Manchester, and Tracy Zimmer, of Augusta; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours are from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 1, 2013 at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta. A graveside service with military honors will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2, 2013 at Mount Hope Cemetery, Winthrop Street, Augusta.
