Gerald bruce goucher

1957-2014

FARMINGDALE - Gerald Bruce Goucher, 56, of Farmingdale, died peacefully at home after a long and courageous battle with cancer on Friday, Jan. 24, 2014, with his family at his side.

He was born in Farmington on Oct. 7, 1957 the first son of Gerald D. and Joyce E. Goucher.

He attended Winthrop High School and Calais Trade School for carpentry. He worked for the Greater Augusta Utility District for more than 33 years, working his way up from a laborer to a foreman to ultimately become operations supervisor.

Always willing to help others, he was a devoted volunteer firefighter for the Farmingdale Fire Department for more than 13 years and also voluntarily served as a member of the Farmingdale sewer committee. He was a skilled craftsman and took great pride in his workmanship.

Never wanting to sit still or slow down, he was always busy working on projects for his home and for family and friends.

He loved golfing and ice fishing, riding his Harley, maintaining his country homestead and spending time with his family.

Bruce was preceded in death by by his parents, Gerald and Joyce Goucher.

He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years Patricia Jean Goucher, of Farmingdale; three children, John Beedle, of Farmingdale, Jason Goucher and his wife, Kim, of Phoenix, Ariz., and Stacy Hayward and her husband, David, of Kalispell, Mont.; three grandchildren, Marisa Beedle, Trenton Hayward and Ashlynn Hayward; two brothers, Richard Goucher, of Mt. Vernon, Daniel Goucher and his wife, Lisa, of Vienna; three sisters, Liana Socquet and her husband, Peter, of North Wayne, Diana Goucher and her partner, Doc, of Westbrook, and Marie Goucher, of Bangor.

Relatives and friends may visit from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30 at Staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Ave, Gardiner.

Bruce's family would like to thank Maine General Hospital, the Harold Alfond Center, and Hospice for the care and support they provided.
