SOUTH PORTLAND - John H. "Jack" Daley Jr., 77, of South Portland, formerly of Westbrook, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2014.
He was born in Gardiner, the son of John and Evelyn (Harris) Daley. Jack was raised in Gardiner, and graduated from Gardiner High School. He attended the University of Maine and graduated from New England Institute of Applied Arts and Sciences in Boston, where he earned an associate degree in funeral service.
Jack then took a funeral director position with John W. Hay in Westbrook, where he had a 42 year career before retiring in 2001. Jack was an active member of the Kiwanis Club in Westbrook for 42 years. He served as the treasurer for 35 years and the Key Club advisor for 25 years. Jack was a member of the Theta Chi fraternity, a senator for the Jaycees, and served on the election polls for many years.
He had a love of classical music. He enjoyed watching sporting events, especially supporting the New England teams. Jack also loved spending time with his wife, Beverly, at their camp on West Pond in East Pasonsfield.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Beverly (Skillins) Daley, of South Portland; his sister, Joanne Clark, and her husband, Ralph, of Gardiner; his nieces, Deborah Susi and husband Michael, Mary Jo and husband Murray "Chipper" Stevens, and Melinda Clark and husband Daniel O'Connell.
Visiting hours will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 10, 2014, at Westbrook Warren Congregational Church, followed by a funeral service at 1 p.m. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. On line condolences may be expressed at www.blaisandhayfuneralhome.com.
