Rinaldo Edward Carr "Ry" jr.

1926-2013

HOLDEN, Mo. - Rinaldo "Ry" Edward Carr Jr., 87, of rural Holden, died Dec. 19, 2013.

Ry was born in his grandparents house on Dec. 2, 1926, in Augusta, Maine, to Rinaldo E.and Marion B. (Jordan) Carr Sr.

He was baptized at Penney Memorial Baptist Church in Augusta, Maine, in 1938. He spent his teenage years working under his father, the Superintendent of Equipment for the city of Augusta, plowing snow in the winter. He graduated from Cony High School in 1945. He promptly joined the Army in June 1945, rising to the rank of staff sergeant in Leghorn, Italy. He was discharged in March 1947 and returned to Maine to work in the shipyards in Bath, Maine. He moved to Kansas City, Mo., in 1950. He married Beverly McFarland on Oct. 29, 1954, at the Tabernacle Baptist Church in Kansas City, Mo. Over the next 20-plus years he earned two engineering degrees and eventually retired in 1993 as a project engineer from BES Company, Consulting Engineers.

During his life he also served as a deacon at Tabernacle Baptist and Spring Valley Baptist Church in Raytown, Mo. He spent many years tracing his family genealogy with his late brother, Sherwood E. Carr. He enjoyed gardening and woodworking.

In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by brothers Roger, Roderic and Sherwood Carr; sister Elaine MacKinnon.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly; son Rinaldo "Rip" Carr III, of Holden, Mo.; daughters Wendy Masek, of Las Vegas, Nev., Barrie Glazebrook, of Pensacola, Fla.; sisters Mayetta LaVasseur, of Fall River, Mass., Marguerite Andrews, of Augusta, Maine, Bethyl House, of Augusta; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 23, at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville.

Memorials are suggested to the Enon Baptist Church in Pittsville.
