CHELSEA -- George R. True Sr., 78, a long-time resident of Chelsea, went to be with the Lord on April 16, 2013, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Winthrop on March 27, 1935, to George and Nettie (Gray) True, he attended Winthrop High School.

As a 17-year-old youth, George started driving truck. He created True and Son Trucking in 1968. For 61 years, he was an independent trucker with his whole heart.

A faithful and devoted Christian husband and father, George attended Calvary Temple in Waterville. Nine of his grandchildren attended the church's school, Temple Academy. He helped build the church and school. George enjoyed spending time with family and friends, reading and camping.

He was predeceased by his parents; two brothers; a sister; and daughter, Betty (True) Adams.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth (Bunny) Smith True; one son, George R. True Jr.; two daughters, Pamela (True) Szaro and Pauline (True) Heath; daughter and sons-in-law, Peggy (Dawbin) True, Scott Szaro, and Michael Heath; grandchildren Tony and Luke Adams and Amanda (Adams) Arroyo, Rebekah Szaro, Stacia (Szaro) Bolitho, George R. True III (Jake), Katie and Bradley True, Dustin, Sean and Jared Heath; great-grandchildren Silas and Annalee Bolitho, Alexander Heath and baby Arroyo on the way.

Visiting hours will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 19, at Knowlton & Hewins Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 1 Church St., Augusta. A memorial service celebrating his life will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 20, 2013, at Calvary Temple, 60 West River Road, Waterville. There will be a reception immediately following the service.
