RANDOLPH - Ruth Louella Caldwell, 80, of Randolph, died peacefully at her home on Saturday, March 29, 2014, with her family at her side. She was born in Randolph on Sept. 5, 1933, the only child of George and Alice Clough Sparrow.
She was a graduate of Gardiner High School class of 1951. She was employed at the veterans hospital at Togus as a dietary aide for 14 years retiring Nov. 3, 1995. She loved the outdoors whether working her garden or hanging her clothes on the clothesline. Ruth enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. She also enjoyed reading, knitting and spending time with her family.
Because she was an only child she wanted many children and was blessed with nine. She was predeceased by her son, Edward Williams and is survived by eight children; Patricia Hall and husband Lance, of Pace, Fla., Barbara Butler and husband Steve, of St. Stevens, Canada, George Williams and wife Brenda, of Randolph, Alpha Williams and wife Laurie, of Chelsea, Alice Ross and husband Dan, of Gardiner, Esther Varney and husband Dean, of South Gardiner, Charlene Morgan and husband Gary, of Harpswell, and Pauline Willard and husband Bill, of Pittston, stepson Carroll Williams and wife Linda, of Gardiner; 22 grandchildren; and 36 great-grandchildren with one on the way.
Graveside services will be held later this spring in the Maple Grove Annex Cemetery, Route 226, Randolph.
