PALERMO -- Dr. Calvin T. Wade passed away on Sunday, Feb. 14, 2010, with Laura, his partner of 29 years, by his side.
He was born in Huntington, W.Va., in 1927 but spent most of his life in Connecticut and Maine.
After serving our country in the Army Air Corps in the Philippines during World War II, Dr. Wade graduated from Lincoln Chiropractic College in Indiana and opened his chiropractic office in 1952. He practiced chiropractic medicine in New Britain, Conn., for 43 years. During that time, he treated more than 10,000 patients.
One of his mottos was, "You really have to know people in order to help them." To this day, many of his former patients attest to the fact that he was a very helpful, kind, considerate, understanding and caring doctor.
Dr. Wade served as president of the Connecticut Chiropractic Association from 1961 to 1963. He was also on the cutting edge of sports medicine, working with coaches on the muscular and skeletal strains and sprains the athletes sustained in athletic competition.
After retirement, he moved to Maine, where he enjoyed the outdoors, including fishing, hunting, and snow plowing his property and road. He was elected and served as a tax assessor for the town of Palermo from March 2004 to March 2008. He was a member of South China Community Church, where he sang in the choir many Sundays.
Survivors include his "special love" and longtime companion, Laura Kee Wade; brother Charles Wade, of Florida; daughter Patricia Wade Pratt, of Jeffersonville, Vt.; son Paul Wade, of Carbondale, Colo.; son Thomas Wade, of Milford, Conn.; stepdaughter Mary Kee Habowski, of Waterville; six grandchildren; and two other daughters.
Visiting hours will be from 1 to 3 p.m on Friday, Feb. 19, at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta, where a 3 p.m. service will follow.
