NEWINGTON, Conn. -- Dennis J. Dix, 67, of Brookside Road, Newington, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Tuesday, March 2, 2010.
Dennis was born in Riverdale, N.Y., on Nov. 23, 1942. He was a graduate of Iona College in New York.
He was employed by the federal government for more than 35 years with the Center for Disease Control in Augusta, Maine; and Hartford, and retired as director of the immunization program. More recently, he was employed by the United States Census Bureau.
Dennis enjoyed spending time with his family, investing, traveling, University of Connecticut basketball, softball, antiquing, chess, magic tricks and playing the gumba with the Fleshapoids. He displayed a unique sense of humor. Among many of his many accomplishments he and his family are proud of his contributions to public health to the people of West Africa.
Dennis is survived by his wife, Kathleen Hogan Dix, of Connecticut; the mother of his children, Sara Elizabeth Dix; three children, sons Dennis J. Dix and Thomas J. Dix and daughter Dena Elizabeth Dix; two stepchildren, Jason Drena, of New Hampshire, and Deborah Drena, of Connecticut; and eight grandchildren.
He was predeseased by his father, Edward Dix; mother Rose Dix and sister Patricia Dix.
Family will receive relatives and friends from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday with a funeral to follow at 10 a.m. on Saturday at the D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Boulevard, Wethersfield. A burial will follow in West Meadow Cemetery, Newington.
