GARDINER -- Karl D. Nieder, 28, of Gardiner and formerly of Springvale, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 3, 2010, at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta.
Karl was born in Red Bank, N.J., on Oct. 27, 1981, a son of Charles and Deborah (Butler) Nieder.
Karl graduated from Sanford High School in 1999. In high school he played on the tennis team and was a National Honor Society member. In 2003 he graduated from the University of Southern Maine. For the past three years, Karl had been employed as an electrical designer in the apprenticeship program at Bath Iron Works.
Karl enjoyed snowboarding, camping, music, singing and playing the guitar. He had a great sense of humor. Quick witted, he was the "King of One Liners."
He was predeceased by his maternal and paternal grandparents. He was also predeceased by his dad, Allen Gullison.
He is survived by his fiancee, Hillary J. Baker, of Gardiner; his mother, Deborah A. Gullison of Springvale; a brother, Brian P. Nieder and his partner, Sierra Paquette, of Springvale; a sister, Whitney A. Gullison and her partner, Nick Baker, of Acton; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members and good friends. He also leaves behind his loving dog, Laci Lu.
Visiting hours for family and friends will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main St., Springvale. A funeral service will take place at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery in Sanford.
