AUGUSTA -- Richard J. Dumont, age 82, died Jan. 20, 2011 at Maine Medical Center, Portland, after a brief illness.
He was born in Augusta, Maine, on March 15, 1928, to Philip and Concord (Picard) Dumont.
Dick attended Augusta schools, graduating from Cony High School in 1946.
On Aug. 16, 1948, Dick and Gemma Albert were married in Augusta.
Dick's contributions include: Served in the 102nd Maine Legislature; two-year term on the Augusta School Board; Augusta City Council from 1974 to 1992 and 1999 to 2000; St. Augustine Parish Council; Gilbert Elementary School Planning Committee; Cony High School Building Committee; member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks of Augusta, founder of Construction Specialties Inc.; instrumental in establishing the Augusta Housing Authority; life member and past president of Le Club Calumet and the recipient of the Medallion Award of the Calumet Club; and the Paul Harris Award.
Dick was predeceased by his parents; three brothers, Leon B. Dumont, Arthur Dumont and Philip R. Dumont, and two sisters, Dorothy O. Dumont and Nancy Dumont.
Surviving is his wife, Gemma (Albert) Dumont, of Augusta; three sons, John A. Dumont of Augusta, Maine, and Hobe Sound, Fla., William H. Dumont and his wife, Rose, of Chelsea, and Carl R. Dumont of Augusta; two daughters, Leila M. Mills and her husband, Robert, of Augusta, and Lori A. McGillicuddy and her husband, Michael, of Manchester; two brothers, Larry Dumont of Fort Kent, and Leo Dumont of Windsor; nine grandchildren, Jennifer Seegichetla, Douglas Dumont, Jeremy Dumont, Carl Magee, Bradley Magee, Amy Stevens, Shawn Dumont, Kelsey Broad and Matthew McGillicuddy; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 25, at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta, where members of the Calumet Club are asked to meet at 6:30 p.m. for a prayer service. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 26, at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Augusta. Spring burial will be in Holy Family Cemetery, Augusta.
