WINDSOR -- James A. Piper, 65, of Windsor, born in Augusta, passed away at his home Dec. 9, 2012.
He graduated from Cony High School and attended Thomas College before serving in the Marine Corps from 1968 to 1970.
He worked 31 years as an Augusta postal clerk, retiring in 2002. He was a member of the American Legion Post 2 for 27 years., chairperson of the Windsor Transfer Station Committee, a member of the Windsor Historical Society and a member of the 1965 Cony High School Reunion Committee.
James was predeceased by his parents, Lawrence E. Piper Sr. and Katherine B. (Nichols) Piper; and an infant daughter, Kimberley A. Piper.
He is survived by his brother, Lawrence E. Piper Jr., of Whitman, Mass.; and his sister, Susan J. Piper, of Augusta. He is also survived by his sons, James L. Piper, of Augusta, and Neil R. Piper, of South Gardiner; a daughter, Kimberly M. Piper, of Waterville; and four grandchildren, Ryan Piper, Zachary Piper, Hayleigh Russo and Kaleb Kliewer. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial celebration of James' life is planned for 10 a.m. Dec. 14, 2012, at Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home, 1 Church St., Augusta.
